A book child, also known as a Liberum Infantis in Tutin, is a child who is raised in a foundlingery, orphanage, or any institution responsible for caring for orphans, strays, or otherwise unwanted children. The term is derived from the practice of their names being entered into a book of some form when they arrive. They thus tend to take the family name of Bookchild when they leave if their original family name is unknown. This practice also marks them as having come from such humble origins and they learn to deal with what they are given in life and to not take things for granted.
Trivia[]
- The Tutin name for a book child, Liberum Infantis, translates to "free child" in Latin.
