A haubardier is a type of pediteer, essentially a heavy musketeer. They take their name from the proof-steel haubardine they wear over their proofing, which combined with the gaulded cloth gives them a layer of troubarding over their torso. Thus protected they are all but invulnerable to shots to the chest and back, but may still be harmed by bludgeoning weapons. Habardiers wear a distinctive gaulded hat called a miter rather than the usual tricorn or thrice-high, under which a steel cap may also be worn. Their primary armament is a musket and bayonet, though they may also carry a jacksword.
Haubardiers have been in existence for at least 200 years and were among the soldiers deployed by the Leaguesarmy during the Battle of the Gates in HIR 1395.
Trivia[]
The haubardiers' use of the mitre and designation as heavy infantry makes them similar to grenadiers, who were distinguished by their use of miters as headgear, although haubardiers do not use grenadoes.
